When: 9:00 a.m. on all days of the week except Mondays Kolkata Must-See’s

What this tour is about: If you have only one day in Kolkata, we recommend you do this tour! It combines Kolkata’s iconic monuments and buildings with the buzz of local bazaars and daily life; providing a unique window into multiple facets of this fascinating city.

We start the tour with a look at Dalhousie Square (now renamed BBD Bagh). This is the oldest square in the city, part of the “White Town” housing some of the city’s earliest and grandest buildings. We will see Raj Bhavan, Writer’s Building, the GPO, St Andrew’s Kirk, St John’s Church and several other Raj-era buildings. We will visit Mother Teresa's memorial and the "Black Town" area. We will visit Kumar Tuli, the potter’s colony, where Calcutta’s famous durga idols are made.

After a break for lunch, we will visit the Victoria Memorial, the city’s most famous monument. Built in 1921 in dramatic white marble, the Victoria Memorial continues to be Calcutta’s pride and joy. The extraordinary architecture combines European and Indian architectural styles to produce something uniquely beautiful. The galleries inside are a treasure-house of Raj memorabilia. We will end the day with a drive around the Maidan, the vast city park which lies at the heart of the city. The Maidan is an integral part of life in Calcutta; serving as a place for rest, recreation and socializing and makes a lovely green end to the tour.
